The DruidCraft Tarot: A Gateway to Inner Wisdom
The DruidCraft Tarot was created by Philip and Stephanie Carr-Gomm to weave together three strands of wisdom: traditional tarot lore, Jungian and transpersonal psychology, and the spiritual practices of Druidry and Wicca. In this two-session course, the deck’s creators teach their “integrative method” directly, offering students a way of reading that is psychologically grounded, spiritually alive, and centred on empowering the person across the table rather than impressing them with the reader’s knowledge.
The first session introduces the integrative method and three essential attitudes for approaching any reading: respect, openness, and trust. Students begin with a two-card soul inquiry, drawing cards simultaneously and free-associating to the images. A Four Directions spread follows, with each compass point representing a different dimension of experience: mind, heart, body, and creativity. The session culminates in what Carr-Gomm calls the “querent-centred” approach: a reading with no prescribed spread, no set number of cards, and no predetermined positions. The client chooses how many cards to draw, interprets them first, and the reader facilitates with open-ended questions rather than delivering verdicts. Carr-Gomm reports that 90% of the time, clients give themselves their own reading when given this space.
The second session takes students deeper. Carr-Gomm introduces the “deep exploration” method: a guided visualization in which students enter a single card, meet its figure, ask a question, and receive a symbolic gift. This technique draws from Jung’s active imagination and Druidic journey work, and it transforms the tarot from a two-dimensional image into a living, interactive encounter. Extended live readings of student submissions demonstrate how the querent-centred and deep exploration methods work in practice, with Carr-Gomm providing detailed interpretive commentary throughout.
Along the way, Carr-Gomm upends standard tarot pedagogy. He begins with the 16 Court Cards rather than the Major Arcana, arguing that the tarot is fundamentally about people and that the court card typology maps to the 16 Jungian personality types. He teaches students to watch for “rogue cards” that jump from the deck during shuffling, and he demonstrates how physically moving cards on the table during a reading can produce breakthrough insights for the client.
Philip Carr-Gomm served as chief of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids for 32 years. Stephanie Carr-Gomm co-created the DruidCraft Tarot and contributes her artistic perspective throughout. Together they model a collaborative, warm, and deeply experienced approach to tarot that treats the cards as tools of alchemy and inner transformation. For students who own the DruidCraft deck, this is direct transmission from the source. For those who do not, the methods taught here apply to any deck.
